IV Shushinkai Shield Championships |

This years venue was the Leominster Leisure Centre and the Tournament Director Sensei Phil Powell 5th Dan.
The biggest entry yet for the Shushinkai Shield saw over 190 competitors come together for another day of excellent competition. |
There were 35 events in all divided into beginner, novice, intermediate and advanced level kata and kumite events.
The first events began at 10.00am with the cadet beginner and novice students kata. Progressing through to the intermediate and then brown belt kata, the highlight was the black belt kata catagorys which were placed back to back with black belt kumite providing a real treat for the spectators and junior grade students. |
After the black belts showed their stuff it was time for the premier event, a round robin event between the 3 branches for the coverted Shushinkai Shield. It was the closest run thing ever, but the South Midlands branch triumphed again and for the third consecutive time, brought the shield home.
Next came the brown belt events which saw many of the SMA students achieving medals. |
Worthy of a special mention are Yasmin winning gold kata, gold kumite and gold in the team event. Secondly Barry Matthews for his 3rd time as captain of a winning kumite team and Dona Marshall for winning gold kumite, silver kata and gold in the team kumite.
Finally a BIG WELL DONE to all who took part, competitors, supporters and officials not to mention Sensei Phil Powell for his admin and organisational skills. |
