A team of 10 SMA students attended the AMA Eastern Championships last Sunday at the Harvey Hadden centre in Nottingham.
The team consisted of Morgan and Finley Winstanley - Jordan Dyer - Dominic Alden - Rory Ford - Josie Reynolds - Melissa Clayton - Naomi and Natasha Marshall and Alex Legal. The team were coached by Senpai Dona while Sensei Brian joined the officials.
For some this was their first experience of competing outside the association and proved a steep learning curve. There were many excellent competitors and our guys held their own often against stiff opposition.
Two competitors managed to get their hands on some silver ware. Namely sisters Natasha and Naomi Marshall. Natasha came joint 3rd in her kata event as did sister Naomi who also triumphed through 3 rounds of kumite to win her kumite division - well done Naomi!
On behalf of everyone at SMA - well done everyone on your efforts and also big thanks to all the parents who came to support the team - your are priceless!
Natasha - Naomi and Melissa
Natasha with 3rd place trophy in kata.
Rory Ford - the smallest boy in the event with the biggest heart - well done Rory!
