Kyu Grade Exam Success     28-09-2008
The 3rd quarterly kyu grade exam took place yesterday at Christ College. Seventy students took part and all gave 100% effort resulting in 100% pass rate!
The senior grade exam was particularly intense as Sensei Brian put 18 students attempting 3rd kyu to 1 kyu through their paces. After a brief warm up all students performed Kihon (basic techniques) and then moved on to Ido Kihon- stepping forward and backwards whilst executing offensive and defensive techniques.
Next was kata and included Sanchin - Jitte - Matsukaze - Jiin - Matsumura Rohai and Jion. The kata section was followed by bunkai kumite and then a gruelling Jyu Kumite section in which every student faced a team of 8 students - sparring with each one for around 30 seconds before facing the next fresh opponent.
The exam thoroughly tested everyones skills - fitness and spirit and many students passed with flying colours. Noteably in the junior grade section - William Grant - James Jones - Connor Coleman and Bella Jarvis all scored 85%. The senior grade section also saw some excellent standards with many passing with merit and one with distinction- namely Rhian Esfandiarinia.

My sincere congratulations go to all who did their best regardless of marks. My thanks also to the parents for their continued support and to the individuals who helped out or purchased a tea or coffee - £15 raised - THANK YOU!
Rhian Esfandiarinia (far right) passed 1st kyu with distinction - Sharing a moment with club mates Sam Norman and Lindsay Carter who both passed to 2nd kyu - collectively known as The Sugar Babes?
