Severn Samurai go to Mexico! |

Seven members of the Samurai Martial Arts karate club have earned themselves a place on a team representing Shito-kai Karate England. Team members include Danielle Lee, 17, Lisa Marfell, 16 and Melissa Clayton, 15 all studying A levels & GCSE’s at the High School for Girls. Yasmin Lee, 14 and Josie Reynolds aged 13 both currently studying at Ribston Hall High School. Naomi Marshall, 13, a black belt studying at Barnwood Park Arts College and Luke Jones, 13 of Dene Magna Technology College. |

The club mates have been practicing karate for between 4 – 7 years and all but one have earned the coveted black belt over the past 2 years. The team members will join nine others selected to represent Shito-kai England at this years XXV Murayama Karate Festival in Monterrey, Mexico. The festival organised by Master Murayama attracts 500 karate students from all over the world to a long weekend of top Japanese instruction followed by two days of competition. |

The young athletes have prepared well over the past 6 months, both during their normal classes at Sir Thomas Rich’s School, Longlevens, Gloucester and Christ College, Cheltenham, and also at GL1 Leisure Centre where the team have been honing their specialist competition skills. Chief instructor Brian Jarvis has high hopes for a successful trip and on behalf of the Samurai karate school, wishes the team the very best of luck! |
