SMA Sports Day 2011     14-08-2011
Last Sunday 28 students plus assistant marshalls Yasmin Lee and Tony Dix met at the STR dojo for the annual Sports Day fundraiser. The 28 participants were divided into 4 teams of 7.
First event was an hour kata class on kata Jitte which included some fun exercises and bunkai.
All warmed up the first competitve event was kata and kumite competition followed by board breaking. Leading the four teams were captains Lisa Marfell - Robert Norman - Chris Lodge and Kathryn Lodge. The captains were assisted by our marshalls and formed the judging team for the karate events.
After lunch we headed out to the field for football. Teams 1 and 2 competed and 3 and 4. The time flew and we had to choose whether or not to do Tag Rugby or Softball. The latter winning by a majority, all teams enjoyed 15 minutes batting and fielding before we made our way to the pool house where the individual races and then team relay took place.
Although it was already 4pm we couldn't get the guys out of the pool without a little 'play-time' and it proved the best way to end the day. Having dried off everyone including parents made their way to the field once more for the medals presentation.
Winners this year were Lisa's team with 292.7 points. Second place Chris's team with 278.7 points. 3rd place went to Robert's team with 276.6 points and Kath's team with 251.9 points.
A big thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event which raised over £350 for the squad.
