Murayama Sensei received his shodan black belt in 1963 and continued training at the university after graduating in 1966. He captained and coached the his clubs team between ’66 and ’68 and his hard work and tireless training earned him the privileged position of being made ‘uchi-deshi’ (live-in-student) to Iwata Sensei from 1968-1970 after which he received his ‘Menkyo’ (teaching certificate) from Iwata Sensei.
At the request of his master, Murayama Sensei left Japan and moved to Mexico to establish a permanent dojo which he located in the City of Monterey near the northern border between Mexico and the USA. Later that year Murayama Sensei was appointed Technical Director of the Mexican National Karate Team who competed in the first ever WUKO tournament held in Tokyo, Japan.
Since then Murayama Sensei has continued to teach and coach a growing membership of karate ka from all over Mexico, South America, USA, Canada and the UK. He has received many honours and accolades over the years and continues to pass on the legacy of his master Manzo Iwata Sensei to those with a genuine interest in Shitoryu karate. |
