5th Shushinkai National Championships 2007 - 03-11-2007
This year the Shushinkai National Championships were hosted by branch chief instructor Sensei Steve Bolland at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire. 18 of us made our way up to Cheshire from the Cheltenham, Gloucester & Ross-on-Wye dojos.

There were over 150 competitors ranging from white belt to 3rd Dan! The day ran very smoothly, beginning with cadet kata & kumite competitions at 10am. As always competitive spirit was excellent with courtesy & respect shown to opponents & judges at all times.

After a quick lunch break, Sensei Brian Jarvis, Senpai Barry Matthews & Senpai Daniel Wignall showed us a spectacular team performance of the kata Kururunfa along with its defensive application. It was a very realistic demonstration of how one person can fend off multiple attackers. They are going to be performing it again at the 24th Copa Murayama Championships in Mexico on 27th October & we are all confident they will come back with some medals.

The event finished at 4:30 & Roger Powell our club medic said not one drop of blood was spilt that day! We said goodbye to our friends up North & returned back to Gloucestershire after a long day with big grins, a few more bruises, 21 medals & more experience of competition karate.
